The Police have arrested 14 persons over an incident of assaulting to death a person and injuring another at an air conditioner repair centre in Dehiwala last night.
The deceased has been identified as a 27-year-old resident of Badowita in Mount Lavinia, while the injured person is a 28-year-old resident of the Dehiwala area and has been admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.
The Police stated that the suspects had handed over the victims to the Dehiwala Police Station claiming that they had trespassed into the air conditioner repair centre due to which they had been beaten and detained.
However, investigations have revealed that the suspects had taken one victim, who had been walking on the road, to the air conditioner repair centre under the assumption that he had trespassed into the store.
The group had assaulted him, after which they had made him call the other victim who had accompanied him, and upon his arrival had beaten and detained him as well.
Thereafter, the suspects handed over the victims to the Dehiwala Police claiming they had trespassed, while they had also taken measures to wash and clean up the crime scene.
The 14 arrested suspects are residents of Kinniya, Nilaweli, Avissawella, Kalutara, Bandaragama, Galle, Beruwala, Kantale, Hatton and Ruwanwella areas.
Two more suspects are to yet be arrested, while the arrested group is to be produced before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
