Showers are expected in several areas in five provinces of Sri Lanka today, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern and Uva provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.
A few showers may occur in the Western and Northwestern coastal areas and in the Jaffna district during the morning too.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly over the sea area around the island and the speed will be 20-30 kmph.
Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be fairly rough at times.
