Sri Lanka has become a nation where the government continuously violates the fundamental and democratic rights of the citizens, Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa stated.
MP Premadasa stated that the people must be given the freedom to exercise their democratic rights and that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) objects to the government’s moves to restrict their rights.
MP Sajith Premadasa made the remarks after visiting the Convenor of the Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudlaige at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital in Ragama today.
Mudalige was arrested along with a group of others for having staged a peaceful demonstration near Kelaniya University yesterday.
MP Premadasa further accused the government of violating the rights of the people by delaying elections in a bid to create an authoritarian power in Sri Lanka.
He further assured that the SJB and its supporters will never work with such a government. (NewsWire)
