Showers are expected in a few areas in Sri Lanka today, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.
A few showers may occur in coastal areas of the Western, Southern and Northwestern provinces during the morning too.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly over the sea area around the island and the speed will be 20-35 kmph.
Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
