Sri Lankan young fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana set a new record to become the youngest overseas player to win an Indian Premier League (IPL) final.
The 20-year-old young talent was part of the Chennai Super Kings team which won its 5th Indian Premier League title in a rain-curtailed match against the Gujarat Titans yesterday (29).
Matheesha Pathirana was also a running contender for the IPL Emerging Player award based on fan votes.
Despite Pathirana having obtained the maximum fan votes, the combined votes of commentators and fans saw Yashasvi Jaiswal from Rajasthan Royals picking up the award for his excellent batting season.
Following his stellar performance at the IPL, Matheesha Pathirana will now return to Sri Lanka to participate in the home series against Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan ODI series will commence on Friday (June 02) with Matheesha Pathirana likely to make his ODI debut for Sri Lanka during the series. (NewsWire)
