A 51-year-old man has been arrested over the death of a 05-year-old boy in the Halbarawa area in Mulleriyawa.
The Police stated that the suspect has been identified as a grass cutter who was in the vicinity of the construction site from which the body of the boy was retrieved.
The body of the child with wounds believed to be from broken glass pieces was recovered from a construction site in the Halbarawa area on Thursday evening.
The Police suspect that the injuries were from glass shards from a broken bottle, while the Mulleriya Police had found the body after receiving information via the police emergency hotline 119.
The deceased is a 05-year-old resident of the Malambe area in Halbarawa.
Investigations have revealed that the child was in the custody of his grandparents, as his parents are separated and the mother is employed overseas.
The Magisterial Inquiry and examination by the judicial medical officer were completed at the location, while the body of the child was placed at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) for postmortem examination.
According to Hospital sources, the postmortem examination has revealed that the death of the child was caused by blood loss after the child’s abdomen was wounded by coming into contact with a sharp object. (NewsWire)
