A leading Sri Lankan athlete has been reported missing while representing the nation at an invitational athletics meet in Geneva, Switzerland, it was reported.
The athlete reported missing has been revealed as Grashan Dhananjaya, the Sri Lanka record holder in Triple Jump (men) and national champion in Long Jump (men).
According to Daily Mirror, Grashan Dhananjaya had visited Switzerland on a private invitation to participate in an athletics meet in Geneva.
He was accompanied by women’s long jump champion Sarangi de Silva and National Athletic Coach Y. K. Kularathna.
Commenting on the matter, Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) Secretary Saman Kumara Gunawardena said that the SLA is not responsible for the athlete as the tour was on a private invitation.
Gunawardena further said that the athlete is reported to have gone missing after participating in the long jump event.
Last year, several Sri Lankan athletes were reported to have gone missing while participating in various international events due to Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. (NewsWire)
