Online applications for passports will commence tomorrow (15) with 51 divisional secretaries around the country to be utilized for the purpose of biometric registration.
Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles stated that the online passport application system was launched under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Homagama Divisional Secretariat today.
The implementation of an online passport application system is part of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s initiative to digitize public services in Sri Lanka.
The new process aims to streamline the passport application process and ensure that passports are delivered to applicants’ residences within a span of three days via courier service.
Individuals can conveniently apply for passports from their homes by visiting www.immigration.gov.lk, selecting the ‘Apply for passports’ option and validating the provided information, applicants will receive the necessary application form.
The Department of Immigration and Emigration is introducing the facility to enable applicants to obtain passports in their hometowns without visiting Colombo.
The Department will continue to accept applications that will be handed over to its offices, while online applicants can submit their fingerprint marks at sub-offices of the Department of Registration of Persons at 51 divisional secretariats.
