Nearly two million Muslims from around the world are currently gathering in Mecca to perform Hajj, the sacred Muslim pilgrimage.
One of the places visited by pilgrims is the Kiswa factory.
Every year, the Kiswa Factory of the Holy Kaaba (King Abdulaziz Complex) produces new black, pure-silk clothing known as the kiswa for the Kaaba. The kiswa is embroidered with silver wires painted with glittering gold, and Quranic verses and supplications are written on it.
This special clothing is used to cover “The Ancient House,” another name for the Kaaba, which holds deep significance in the hearts of Muslims.
The ritual used to perform on the ninth or tenth day of Dhul Hijja, the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar. This year, it will be replaced on the first Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
Reports said the factory, which is dedicated to manufacturing the new cover every year, has prepared the new cover. Hundreds of kilograms of silk, gold, and silver are used in the manufacturing of Kiswah.
