The proposal to establish a Gambling Regulatory Authority has received Cabinet approval.
The proposal was proposed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Finance Minister.
According to the government, the need for a Gambling Regulatory Authority was identified in order to collect the necessary taxes, prevent crimes related to gambling, and prevent the impact of gambling-related activities on society and individuals.
Cabinet approval has been granted for the legal draftsman to formulate the necessary laws in this regard. (NewsWire)
