PMI Sri Lanka Chapter is the official Charter of the Global Project Management Institute, USA. PMI Sri Lanka Chapter, strive to inculcate best practices of Project Management in every project in the country by sharing and passing the knowledge to local professionals in the Project Management arena and recognize the Best of the Best in PM Discipline. The Excellence Award Ceremony is on August 16 from 6.30 pm onwards and the National Conference is to be held on the same day from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. This year’s National Conference and the Award Ceremony, which is an annual event is rather special because the Project Management Institute – Sri Lanka Chapter celebrates its 20th anniversary alongside the event. The ceremony, with the dignity of 20 years of national reputation, appreciating the greatest in the project management field holds in pageantry with the participation of around a thousand local and foreign members of the Project Management Institute.
Continuing on the topmost place of the project management field for 20 years evidences the result of the huge devotion of the Project Management Institute in producing the cream of the field with rich experience and getting updated. The Project Management Institute of Sri Lanka, with membership and volunteers of over five thousand, has been engaged in producing Sri Lankan project management talents for the world and the nation.
The Project Management Institute is active in almost all the countries in the world for the purpose of developing vocations, developing institutional successes, and further advancement of standardization of the project management profession through world-recognized standards, certifications, publications, vocational development courses, and networking opportunities. The objective of the Project Management Institute Sri Lanka Chapter is among others are the identification of best people in the Sri Lanka project management field, giving recognition to project managers/project managing groups that contribute to the development of the country, moving forward project management concepts, mechanisms, theories with leading the project management training to the pinnacle of international level.
There were several benchmarking projects appraised at the previous National Project Management Excellence Awards which was held in 2018. The grand award was won by the “Organizational Transformation project using SAP” project completed by EB Creasy & CW Makie Group of Company. Further, corporate giants like Sri Lanka Mobitel, Sampath Bank, Abans PLC, CBL, Nations Trust, AAT Sri Lanka, and Sitha FM were awarded for their successful projects in different categories.
More than 400 personnel including public and private sector delegates and professionals participated in the conference themed ‘Trailblazers: Disruption made possible by a Project Manager’. This Grand event was patronized by global PMI leadership, C-level Officers, Directors and General Management of all significant corporate bodies in Sri Lanka as well as professional Project Management practitioners and professionals who have contributed their PM knowledge to the development of our country.

Any project management organization or institute registered in Sri Lanka, for example, a government institute or subsidiary, profit or nonprofit organizations, and NGOs can apply for National Project Management Excellence Awards-2023. Applications can be downloaded from www.pmicolombo.org. The organization or the project manager that is a Sri Lanka citizen, reasonable implementation of an approved subject range, within the time frame and the budget, at least 50% of the group including the project manager are within Sri Lanka borders, projects completed before March 31, 2023, recognition of completion by patronage client or recipient before nomination, getting substantial and clear benefits for the country, etc. then the particular institute, organization or project manager qualifies for evaluation at the conference.
The other factor particularly must take into consideration is, projects under the direct or indirect contractual basis of the Project Management Institute, current committee members of the PMICSL or current members above them, and active committee members of the 2023 NPME awards ceremony are not qualified for this year award ceremony.
Two awards, winner and runner-up, are offered for each category. The evaluation or grading of a particular category is done within that category only. Given below are the recommended categories for evaluation.
