A tragic incident has been reported at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, where a 21-year-old female named Chamodi Sandeepani passed away after receiving medication through a cannula during her treatment.
According to her mother, Chamodi had initially sought treatment for indigestion problems at the Kotaligoda District Hospital.
However, her condition necessitated her transfer to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for further medical care.
In an interview with Ada Derana, Chamodi’s mother recounted the distressing turn of events.
She stated that her daughter’s condition deteriorated and her body turned blue after the administration of two medications through the cannula. Chamodi expressed her discomfort immediately after the medication was given, and she proceeded to the bathroom, where she leaned against the sink before collapsing. Her mother described the alarming change in her daughter’s appearance, noting the bluish hue that had enveloped her entire body.
As a result, both the Peradeniya Hospital and the Peradeniya Police have initiated investigations into this incident. Additionally, a forensic examination is scheduled to take place to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding Chamodi Sandeepani’s untimely demise.
