The first Holy Quran memorization competition was held at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Religions recently.
The event was organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, in coordination with the Kingdom’s Embassy in Sri Lanka and in cooperation with the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA).
Nearly 1,500 students of both genders participated in the competition in eight branches, and 240 from Arabic schools and Quran memorization centers qualified for the finals.
The winners were honoured at a ceremony held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo on Monday at an event attended by Sri Lanka Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana.
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, Khalid Hamoud Alkahtani and Minister of Buddhashasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Vidura Wickremanayake also attended the event. (NewsWire)
