LPL team Galle Titans officially launched today

Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise the Galle Titans, formerly known as Galle Gladiators, will be represented by a Sri Lankan owner for the first time in the cricket tournament. 

Owned by Sri Lankan Entrepreneur, Nayana Wasalathilake the franchise has been rebranded from its name, attire, logo and colour.

During a press briefing held today, the Galle Titans makeover was revealed by Wasalathike ahead of this year’s LPL edition.

Addressing the press briefing, Wasalathilake said his team is looking to participate in several other leagues overseas with the Galle Titans brand.

Revealing his plans, Wasalathilake said that they are going forward with a plan and in the future the Titans will be looking to play some leagues in Dubai and Nepal as a Sri Lankan brand.

Meanwhile, the CEO of the Galle Titans Achintha Hewanayake said that although their short-term goal is to win this year’s LPL title, the long-term strategy would be to play in other leagues as well.

Also speaking to the media, Galle Titans head coach Chamara Kapugedara said his team comprises both senior players and young players.

The team will be headed by Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka and includes both local and foreign players such as Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shakib Al- Hasan, Ashan Priyanjana, and Marin Guptil. 

The fourth season of the Lanka Premier League will commence on July 30 and continue till August 21.
