Ten suspects who had posed as Police officers and stolen cash and property from several areas have been apprehended in the Pokunuwita area, in Horana.
According to the Police, the suspects have carried out robberies in the Millaniya, Kahathuduwa, Anuguruwatota, Padukka, Kosgama, Ingiriya, Kirindiwela, and Bandaragama areas.
The chief suspect of the group was arrested with 10.18 grams of heroin in the Pokunuwita area in Horana based on a tip-off.
The Police stated that interrogations had led to the arrest of the other nine suspects.
The chief suspect was produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court after which he was ordered to be detained until July 25 for questioning.
The Police said a locally manufactured firearm was found in the possession of one suspect among the remaining suspects.
Based on information from the suspects, the Police have recovered 02 three-wheelers, 06 motorcycles, 03 gold bars, 02 swords, a machete, and several jackets and t-shirts bearing the print ‘Police’. (NewsWire)
