Health Trade Unions have decided to launch a token strike on Thursday (August 03) representing the entire health sector of Sri Lanka, it was reported.
According to Mawbima, Health Trade Union leaders stated that the strike will be launched over several issues, including the shortage of medicines at state hospitals, having to prescribe inferior medicines to patients, and the collapse of the entire health sector in Sri Lanka.
Stating that the token strike is being held for the benefit of all Sri Lankans, the Health Trade Union leaders stated that they will secure the support of the public for this purpose.
Thereby, health professionals will meet in Colombo on Wednesday (August 02) to form a national movement with the aim to protect the lives of patients and to provide answers to the health crisis in the nation, they said.
The Health Trade Union leaders also called for the immediate withdrawal of the decision taken by the Health Ministry Secretary to suppress the voices of health professionals raising questions about the alleged drug trafficking conducted using the present situation and emergency purchasing system at hospitals.
The Health Trade Union leaders warned of intensifying their token strike if the circular issued by the Health Ministry Secretary is not immediately revoked. (NewsWire)
