Sri Lanka Customs has destroyed counterfeit goods worth Rs. 88 million in a bid to protect Intellectual Property Rights and raise business confidence in the nation.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, oil filters, data cables, and mobile phone chargers of recognized international brands that have been imported are among the goods that were destroyed.
Issuing a statement, Sri Lanka Customs said that the steps have been taken as part of efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit products in the market.
“The destruction of counterfeit goods is to create awareness among the public about the potential risks of buying such goods. The public has been warned to be cautious especially when purchasing goods via the internet. Consumers have also been urged to support legal businesses in the country,” Sri Lanka Customs added.
