To address the severe congestion at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), which is currently facing around 25,000 daily passenger arrivals and departures, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited has opted to rapidly build a prefabricated terminal.
This short-term solution aims to ease the congestion until the ongoing construction of the second terminal is finished.
As per a statement from the Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Ministry, the prefabricated terminal project is expected to be completed within six months.
After the completion of the second terminal’s construction at BIA, the prefabricated terminal will be repurposed for domestic flight operations.
