A suspect involved in the recent shooting in Thalangama, in which a 44-year-old man was killed, has been arrested after fleeing to Singapore, it was reported.
Two men on a motorcycle shot the victim on Friday (Aug. 25) and fled the area. The victim, who is a money lender, succumbed to injuries at the Colombo National Hospital.
According to Ada Derana, among the duo who had fled the area after the shooting, the 23-year-old accomplice had fled to Singapore.
However, upon a tip-off received by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Nugegoda Police Division, the Police took measures to obtain a travel ban against the accomplice and brief the Singaporean authorities of the situation.
Despite the accomplice having boarded the flight to Singapore, he was arrested upon landing in the country and was immediately deported to Sri Lanka by the Singaporean authorities.
The 23-year-old youth, a resident of Athurugiriya, was taken into custody by Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities upon his return at the Katunayake Airport yesterday (31).
Investigations have revealed that the youth had carried out the shooting on the orders of a criminal gang member operating under the alias “Athurugiriye Ladiya”.
The suspect will be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court, while the Police intend to obtain a detention order for further interrogations. (NewsWire)
