Sun –
The sun will be directly over six areas of Sri Lanka today, the Department of Meteorology said.
Accordingly, at 12.09 pm the sun will be above Kochchikade, Mawanella, Peradeniya, Galahitiyawa in the Badulla District, Danigala in the Monaragala District, and the Paragahakele in the Ampara District.
As per the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until the 07th of September this year.
Rain –
Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Nuwara-eliya districts.
A few showers are likely in the Anuradhapura district.
Fairly strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times in the western slopes of the central hills, Western, Southern, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces.
Sea areas –
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 60-70 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.
Wind speed may increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai can be very rough at times.
