Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Asanka Navaratne has refuted media reports of a crossover to the Opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
SJB and Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa in a post on social media claimed that MP Navaratne has joined hands with the SJB with the aim of working towards the common goal of a shared democracy.
He further said that the decision was taken after the two MPs had held a discussion at the Opposition Leader’s Office on Monday (Sep 04).
However, addressing a press briefing in Colombo yesterday (Sep 05), MP Asanka Navaratne refuted the claims, stating that he had met MP Premadasa only to discuss the potential of forming a broader alliance.
The Kurunegala District SLPP MP further said that they had met the Opposition Leader on an invitation extended by the latter.
Stating that no final decision has been taken on forming a broader alliance, he reiterated that discussions had not taken place pertaining to the two parties joining hands. (NewsWire)
