The shooting reported in Ambalantota involving a woman on a bus yesterday (Sep 07) is a result of an alleged revenge attack related to a previous shooting incident, it was reported.
Two men on a motorcycle had obstructed a bus, with the pillion rider boarding the bus and shooting a woman on her shoulder, after which the suspects had fled the area.
The woman who was injured in the shooting in the Madayamalalla area in Ambalantota was initially admitted to the Baragama Regional Hospital and later transferred to the Hambantota Hospital.
According to Daily News, the Ambalantota Police said the woman was a 48-year-old mother of three and a resident of Koggalla in Ambalantota.
Investigations reveal the woman was the mother of the main suspects involved in a murder that took place in the South Kadwara area of Ambalantota in July.
A father of two was killed in July, with investigations revealing that the attackers had intended to shoot his son-in-law and not him.
The Police stated that the pillion rider who had boarded the bus and shot the woman yesterday has been identified as the son-in-law of the individual who was killed in July.
The Police said the woman was returning home after attending court hearings and was accompanied by her teenage daughter and sister at the time of the shooting. (NewsWire)
