A 27-year-old British national has been found dead after falling from the 13th floor of an apartment at Alwis Avenue in Mount Lavinia on Saturday (Sep 09), it was reported.
According to Lankadeepa, the woman had visited Sri Lanka on an invitation extended by a Sri Lankan who she had befriended on Facebook.
Investigations by the Mount Lavinia Police have revealed that the victim had arrived in Sri Lanka on March 08 to meet her boyfriend, a 29-year-old law student residing in Wellawatte.
The man who had been studying in Switzerland had returned to Sri Lanka last year, and the two are said to have developed an affair through Facebook.
Police investigations revealed that the woman was set to return to England on Sunday (Sep 10), but was found dead on Saturday.
The victim’s boyfriend who was taken into Police custody had informed the authorities that the two had had an argument on Friday night.
Stating that he had consumed a lot of beer and fallen asleep on Friday, the suspect said they had found her body after a search conducted as there was no response from her.
The British Embassy in Sri Lanka has been informed of the incident, while the postmortem examination was conducted yesterday. (NewsWire)
