Several train services have been cancelled this morning due to a strike launched by the Sri Lanka Locomotive Operating Engineers Union, the Sri Lanka Railways stated.
Secretary of the Union, S.R. C.M. Senanayake stated that the strike was launched from midnight yesterday over several demands, including issues pertaining to salary increments.
As a result, At least 20 scheduled train services operating on the main railway line, Puttalam railway line, Coastal railway line and the Kelani Valley railway line were cancelled this morning.
The Railway Department stated that trains plying from Chilaw, Ganewatte, and Aluthgama to Colombo this morning were cancelled.
Several short distance trains that were scheduled to ply from Colombo have also been cancelled.
However, trains are operating from Polgahawela, Rambukkana, Kandy, Mahawa, Kurunegala, Galle, and Avissawella. (NewsWire)
