Sri Lanka needs to focus on improving opportunities related to fashion designing as there is scope in the country, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
The President pointed out that there needs to be a fashion sense in order for Sri Lanka to take forward its apparel industry.
“We are looking at holding the necessary discussions to enhance the role of fashion designers in the apparel industry. We are also looking at hosting a good fashion show in Sri Lanka,” he said.
President Wickremesinghe further said if tourist arrivals are to be increased then Sri Lanka should be able to offer something in return, which could be a t-shirt, swimming shorts or even a sarong.
Expressing confidence in the scope of fashion designing in the country, the President said seeing how the apparel industry has progressed thus far it was now time to move towards improving the fashion designing sector.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe made the remarks during a question raised by a student who had topped the 2021 GCE Advanced Level Examination and was currently pursuing a fashion designing course at a state university.
During a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (Sep 12), the student expressed concerns over the lack of opportunities for fashion designing within Sri Lanka’s apparel industry. (NewsWire)
