Sri Lanka Police has warned the public of house robberies being carried out by individuals impersonating Police officers.
The Police stated that information has been received of individuals inspecting houses claiming to be Police officers in civil attire and engaging in theft.
Such inspections are not carried out by officers in civil attire unless they are attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Police Narcotics Bureau, or any other special unit, the Police clarified.
They further said that in the event a search is required to be carried out, the public have the authority to request for official police identities as proof of identity.
The Police stated that the public are usually notified prior to being searched.
The public is requested to take all necessary precautionary measures in this regard and to inform their nearest Police station in the event of suspicion. (NewsWire)
