Two persons were reported dead in a shooting incident near the Gurupasgoda bend in Upper Thalduwa, Awissawella yesterday.
The Police stated that two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle had opened fire at a three-wheeler plying from Awissawella to Kegalle last night.
Among the four passengers who were injured in the shooting, two had succumbed to injuries at the Awissawella Hospital, while two others are undergoing treatment.
The deceased are aged 27 and 36 years and are residents of Thalduwa. The injured persons are aged 42 and 43 years and are also residents of Thalduwa.
Investigations have found that the suspects had used a T-56 weapon to carry out the shooting and had fled the scene following the incident.
The suspects have not been identified as yet, while the Awissawella Police is conducting investigations. (NewsWire)
