Essential Medicine donation from Bangladesh on Health Minister’s personal request

Sri Lanka expects to receive a donation of 54 types of essential medicines from Bangladesh based on a personal request made by Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella. 

According to a Ministry of Health Statement, Sri Lanka’s Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella via his Bangladeshi Counterpart had made a request from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh facilitating the donation. 

The Health Ministry anticipates that the donation of essential medicines worth US$ 58, 307 with the involvement of Bangladesh’s Health Ministry is expected to be delivered to Sri Lanka within this week. 

Bangladesh has provided a prompt response to the request made by Sri Lanka’s Health Minister as a measure to resolve the existing shortage of medicines in the country. 

The Health Ministry states that much required medicines, including those for cancer and kidney treatments, are among the donation of medicines from Bangladesh. 

Expressing his gratitude, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has extended his appreciation to the PM, Health Minister and government of Bangladesh for its prompt assistance to Sri Lanka. 

The Health Ministry also expects to enter into a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bangladesh related medical supplies as a solution to the medicine shortage in Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
