Sri Lanka Customs has seized a stock of gold items, including gold biscuits valued at Rs. 123 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
According to media reports, the gold was found in the possession of five persons, including four women, who had arrived from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The suspects detained by officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs were found to have attempted to smuggle in 06 gold biscuits and jewellery.
Sri Lanka Customs stated that four women and the man had arrived on a FlyDubai flight, while another woman had arrived on a SriLankan Airlines flight early this morning.
The group was found to have concealed the gold items in their bodies and their hand luggage.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Colombo who frequently fly overseas for business purposes.
The Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs has launched investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
