The shoulder discomfort sustained by Sri Lanka’s opening batsman Kusal Janith Perera during yesterday’s World Cup warm up match is not serious, Sri Lanka Cricket sources stated.
The sources told NewsWire, that the cricketer had retired hurt after scoring 34 runs from 24 balls after suffering from pain on his right shoulder.
While the injury is considered not serious, the Sri Lanka Team management will send Kusal Janith Perera for a scan today to assess his shoulder.
The team management expects he will recover in time for the first World Cup match on October 07.
Sri Lanka Cricket team management may rest Kusal Janith Perera for the warm-up match against Afghanistan on October 03 as a precaution.
The 2023 ICC’s Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in India from October 5 to November 19, 2023.
Sri Lanka have already faced one warm-up match in which they were defeated by Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka is currently playing with a 14 man squad with Spinner Maheesh Theekshana yet to join the team as he is yet to fully recover. (NewsWire)
