Sri Lanka has reported a significant growth in the number of workers who have left for South Korea for employment this year.
The number of Sri Lankan workers departing for Korea this year has surpassed 5,000, Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara announced today.
Taking to ‘X’, Minister Nanayakkara pointed out that this was an impressive 44% growth compared to the previous year.
“This underscores our commitment to enhancing employment prospects between Sri Lanka and South Korea,” he added.
In April this year, the Director of the Korean Human Resources Department based in Sri Lanka agreed to provide 8,000 job opportunities for Sri Lankans in South Korea this year.
Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said at the time that the agreement exceeds the job quota of 6500 offered earlier.
In September this year, South Korea agreed to further increase the recruitment of Sri Lankans by giving more opportunities to skilled workers with knowledge of the Korean Language.
During his recent visit to Sri Lanka, the Minister of Labour & Employment of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jungsik said South Korea has doubled the recruitment of Sri Lankan employees this year. (NewsWire)
