The Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe to share with it the copies of the reports issued by various foreign intelligence services on the 2019 Easter attacks, as mentioned by the President during a recent interview with German media, Deutsche Welle.
During the exclusive interview, the President revealed that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in its report has ruled out outside involvement, hinting at the possibility of it being an internal matter without the involvement of foreign elements despite earlier reports of ISIS being behind the attacks.
“We had the FBI, we had the British Police, the Australians, Indians, Chinese and the Pakistanis. If those secret services have given reports, what are these allegations? The Sri Lanka Government does not have international inquiries,” he further said.
Commenting on the President’s statement, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference requested the President to share copies of the said reports with the institution.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference reiterated that the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, was an integral and a most vital member of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka.
The statement was made referring to President Wickremeisnghe’s comments on the Cardinal during the interview, in which he said that he is not dealing with Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith but only with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
