Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has proposed to the Parliament of Sri Lanka to call on the United Nations (UN) to convene its Security Council to end the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
MP Sajith Premadasa made the request by presenting a motion in this regard in Parliament today (Oct 18).
Addressing the Parliament, the MP said that an Israeli air raid on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza has killed at least 500 people, adding that 1400 Israelis and over 3000 Palestinians have also been killed thus far in the conflict.
Stating that it was a massacre, MP Premadasa called on the UN Security Council to immediately convene its permanent members and to take necessary measures to stop the ongoing terrorism and state terrorism.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations met on Tuesday (Oct 17) under the chairmanship of MP Namal Rajapaksa.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the prevailing situation in the Middle East, the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and its impact on Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
