Bus modification: Request from Namal Rajapaksa

The government must look into the possibility of granting permission, subject to regulations, for the modification of buses that do not pose a danger to the public, former minister Namal Rajapaksa said.

The Parliamentarian made the remark during a discussion with owners of buses used for public transportation.

MP Namal Rajapaksa said the modification of vehicles, including buses, was an industry on its own.

“Legal action must be taken against those breaking the law and posing a danger to the public. There is no issue with initiating action in this regard. However, there is also no issue in modifying buses if they did not cause harm to the public,” he pointed out.

Requesting the authorities not to confuse reckless driving and modifications, the MP said action against modifications will affect the industry and in turn, affect the country.

MP Namal Rajapaksa appealed to the government to provide concessions to modified buses that do not pose a danger to the public.

“It is not an offence to carry out bus modifications outside of the road and bus permits,” he added. (NewsWire)
