Cabinet approval has been granted to waive visa fees to tourists from seven countries, Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando announced on Tuesday (Oct 24).
Taking to ‘X’, Minister Fernando said that free visas will be offered to India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand under a pilot project.
He further said that the pilot project will be launched with immediate effect and will be carried out until March 31, 2024.
The Cabinet approval comes after the Tourism Ministry submitted a Cabinet paper, earlier this month, initially proposing free tourist visas for visitors from five countries.
A Tourism Ministry statement at the time said free tourist visas are to be offered to tourists from China, Russia, India, Thailand, and Indonesia.
The Tourism Ministry further said that the purpose of free tourist visas was to attract more tourists to Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
