Cabinet approval has been granted for the amendment of provisions in the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act, NO. 19 Of 1954 to enable women to work at night.
The amendment will allow women working for organizations whose business is based on information technology, knowledge process outsourcing firms, business process outsourcing firms, and offices dealing with accounting, administrative and technical work for business establishments located in other countries to engage in night shifts.
The Attorney General’s clearance has been received for the draft bill of Shop and Office Employees (regulation of employment and remuneration) (Amendment) Act prepared by the Legal Draftsman.
The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal submitted by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to publish the said draft bill in the Government Gazette Notification and subsequently table it in the Parliament for approval. (NewsWire)
