Plans have been implemented to curb criminal activities completely within the next 6 months in Sri Lanka, Western Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon said.
SDIG Tennakoon said information has been received that most of the organized crimes reported in the recent past had been executed by drug traffickers who are living overseas.
Addressing an event on Sunday (Oct 29), he further said that several suspects involved in the crimes are currently in Police custody.
“Several of the organized crimes reported in the South in the recent past have been planned and executed by drug lords living overseas. Three major drug kingpins are currently in the custody of the Sri Lanka Police. They were arrested overseas and brought back to Sri Lanka,” the SDIG said.
SDIG Tennakoon said through a very systematic program and within a period of about six months, measures are being implemented to control the activities of these organized groups and to completely eliminate underworld activities.
“There are people in your areas who are threatening businessmen and extorting money from them. Please inform the Police of such individuals from your area and extend your assistance to the Police,” he further appealed to the public. (NewsWire)
