A new entrance to the Horton Plains National Park from Diagama has been constructed with the assistance of Sri Lankan cement manufacturing Company, Tokyo Cement, the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

The new entrance gate to Horton Plains from Diagama equipped with a ticket office consisting of all infrastructure and constructed at the financial expense of Tokyo Cement Group was recently declared open.

Speaking at the opening ceremony held last week, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said Tokyo Cement Group had carried out the project as their personal duty at a time when the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Department was unable to commit to such a construction.

Tokyo Cement Company has invested Rs. 50 million for the construction of the new entrance gate and ticket office in Diagama, while all the constructions have been done by preserving the ecosystem. The ticket office has been built with all the infrastructure, including a car park.

Cabins have been constructed for security purposes and quarters have also been built with all the necessary infrastructure for wildlife officers including park custodians. Solar panels have also been installed to obtain the required electricity. (NewsWire)
