Russian charter airline, Azur Air commenced operations to Sri Lanka starting today (Nov 01).
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) said direct charter flights between Russia and Sri Lanka will be operated for the winter season.
Azur Air is scheduled to operate four (04) flights per week from Venukov, Tolmochev, Krasnoyarsk, and St Petersburg in Russia.
The first flight arrived at the Katunayake Airport (BIA) this morning with 332 passengers.
The flight was welcomed by a celebratory water cannon salute upon arrival at the Katunayake Airport.
The passengers were warmly welcomed with Sri Lanka Tea Board-sponsored Ceylon Tea gift packs followed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance. (NewsWire)
