The Court of Appeal has issued a stay order against the Gazette issued by the Sports Minister on the appointment of an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) headed by former cricketer Arjuna Ranatunga.
The court order has been issued after taking up for hearing a petition filed by SLC President Shammi Silva challenging the Gazette notification.
Issuing the order, the Court of Appeal suspended for 14 days the functions of the SLC interim committee appointed by the Sports Minister.
A Gazette was issued by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe yesterday announcing the appointment of the interim committee for SLC.
It was soon reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe was unaware of the Sports Minister’s decision to appoint an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket.
The matter was taken up at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting chaired by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
During the meeting, the President and Cabinet appointed a 4-member ministerial committee to investigate the future activities of SLC and the gazette notification issued by the Sports Minister. (NewsWire)
