Today’s Weather Forecast :
The Met Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of Sri Lanka after 01.00 p.m. today. Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Southern and Western provinces. Showers may occur in some places in the Western provinces and in the Puttalam district during the morning too.
Weather Forecast for Sea Areas :
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the Island, particularly during the afternoon or night. Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction over the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Persons affected due to adverse weather conditions :
The Disaster Management says 517 people from 127 families have been severely affected due to the adverse weather conditions recorded from September to date. 662 people from 198 families have been placed at 12 safety locations. (NewsWire)
