IGP C.D. Wickremaratne has reportedly informed his senior official that he is retiring from his position.
He was initially set to retire earlier but received several extensions from President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
However, the Constitutional Council has recently declined to approve any further extensions.
The Police spokesperson has confirmed that the current IGP’s extension has concluded, and the next steps are yet to be communicated.
Media reports suggest that the President will soon submit a new name to the Constitutional Council for the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police.
Currently, the Sri Lanka Police is operating without an Inspector General. (NewsWire)
