Two Sri Lankans who had attempted to flee to Italy using forged visa documents were apprehended at the Katunayake Airport on Sunday (Dec 03), it was reported.
The suspects are a man aged 35 years and a woman aged 25 years, who are residents of Wathupitiwala in Nittambuwa.
They had attempted to travel to Italy via Doha, Qatar last morning, but had been arrested after suspicions arose about the documents handed over to the Qatar Airlines officials for clearance.
The suspects had been handed over to the Immigration and Emigration Department officials after which their visas were found to be forged.
Interrogation of the suspects revealed that they had paid Rs. 08 million to a broker to obtain the fake visa and that the broker had dropped them off at the airport.
The suspects have been apprehended and handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department at the Katunayake Airport for further investigations. (NewsWire)
