Sri Lanka has succeeded in securing two Olympic-level Blue Polytan Astro hockey turfs through the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), it was reported.
According to Sports Minister Harin Fernando, the two hockey turfs have been secured for the Colombo and Matale areas.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the hockey turfs was signed by the Director General of Sports, Dr. Shemal Fernando, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and the President of the AHF, Fumio Ogura.
The signing of the MoU was also attended by Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Sports Rohana Dissanayake and President of the World Hockey Federation (FIH), Dato Tayyab Ikram.
The event took place during the AHF Executive Board Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently.
While the cost of a blue Polytan astro hockey turf is valued at Rs.163 million, Sri Lanka has successfully negotiated to get these turfs for a special discount unit price of Rs. 77 million through the World and Asian Federations.
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Sports is expected to pay to the AHF account in Tokyo, Japan, in USD within 10 days.
The work on the project, both at the manufacturer’s facility as well as in Sri Lanka, will commence concurrently. (NewsWire)
