The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has expressed solidarity with Iran following explosions during a ceremony in the city of Kerman which killed nearly 84 people on Thursday.
Iranians have observed a day of mourning after twin bombings in the city of Kerman killed and wounded many people at a memorial for top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani four years after his assassination, raising tensions in the region.
Condemning the attacks, the JVP expressed its solidarity with Iran via a letter to the Ambassador of Iran to Sri Lanka Dr. Alireza Delkhosh.
“It is with profound sorrow that we learn about the explosions that killed nearly 100 people and wounded many more at a ceremony in the city of Kerman in Iran,” the JVP said in its letter.
The JVP further said it condemns with contempt the heinous and inhumane crime against the people, adding that only brutal and vicious criminals could commit such a horrific crime against the people.
“The world has experienced such terrorism carried out or supported by imperialism that is on the verge of losing its grip internationally. We do believe the imperialist powers and its protectorates have attacked Iran due to its brave and resilient struggle to safeguard its Sovereignty. Such monstrous crimes could be halted only by defeating imperialism,” the party said.
The JVP further said together with it, the people of Sri Lanka express their solidarity with the Iranian people at this hour of grief and send to the people in Iran and the families of the deceased their deepest condolences. (NewsWire)
