Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Eastern, Northern and Uva provinces, while several spells of showers will occur in the North-central province.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Badulla districts. Heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Galle via Trincomalee, Pottuvil and Hambantota. Showers or thundershowers can occur in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly or easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times and the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar can be moderate at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
