Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Nayana Wasalathilake is next on the list to enter the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the SJB announced.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said Nayana Wasalathilake is next in line to succeed Chaminda Wijesiri who resigned from his parliamentary seat.
Chaminda Wijesiri’s resignation was confirmed via a Parliament press release issued today.
Addressing the Parliament today, MP Chaminda Wijesiri said he has submitted his letter of resignation to the Speaker of the House MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
He further said that the Parliament needs a new mandate, adding that the public was cursing all 225 MPs, including their children, and that his children do not deserve such ill will.
Stating that he will not leave the SJB, the MP said he will consider re-entering politics under the SJB once party Leader MP Sajith Premadasa is elected to power.
Nayana Wasalathilake, a businessman with many businesses related to Australia, contested the last Parliamentary election from the Badulla District but failed to secure the necessary votes to enter Parliament.
A top businessman, Wasalathilake also made his mark in last year’s Lanka Premier League (LPL) as the owner of the Galle Titans franchise. (NewsWire)
