Suspect arrested at Airport over murder of woman near Kahathuduwa highway interchange

A 45-year-old man suspected to have killed a woman near the Kahathuduwa interchange on the Southern Expressway on Tuesday has been apprehended while attempting to flee the country.

The suspect had attacked the 41-year-old woman, an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority, with a sharp object while she was travelling on the road near the entry point of the Kahathuduwa interchange last evening.

The Police stated that the man had arrived in a car with a group and had attacked the woman on her throat while she was returning home after work. 

The woman was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Wethara Hospital following the attack.

However, the suspect was identified and was apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to leave the country yesterday. 

The cause of the murder is unknown and the Kahathuduwa Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
