Sri Lanka Cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya is set to join the U-19 national team in South Africa as they gear up for the U-19 World Cup, in place of National teams Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardena who will not travel to South Africa due to personal family reasons.

Jayasuriya, in his role as new Sri Lanka Cricket consultant, will arrive tomorrow and offer his vast experience and expertise to the young cricketers, hoping to turn around their fortunes after a disappointing Asia Cup campaign.

The U-19 team, however, started their World Cup warm-up on a positive note, securing a crucial victory against Bangladesh yesterday. This early boost of confidence will be crucial as they head into the main tournament aiming to redeem themselves.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s presence brings a wealth of cricketing knowledge and leadership to the team. His fiery batting spirit and tactical acumen could be the perfect ingredients to ignite Sri Lanka’s U-19 campaign on the world stage.

Sri Lanka’s U-19 World Cup kicks off on January 21st, with Sri Lanka facing Zimbabwe in their opening match. (NewsWire)
