Afternoon showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Eastern and Uva provinces and the Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Several spells of showers may occur in Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and the Galle, Matara and Kandy districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Batticaloa.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
